These Designs depict a Māui Dolphin that’s in the process of being trapped by fishing nets. A significant number of Māui dolphins have died from entanglements in set nets used by the Commercial Fishing Industry (Department of Conservation, 2022).
The Last Seen: Māui Dolphin Collection was designed to raise awareness of the depleting Māui Dolphin population. Scientists estimate that only 63 are left (2022). Their existence continues to be threatened by harmful fishing practices, climate change, pollution and oil spills.
