THE CAMPAIGNS

 

These Campaigns are created to educate others about issues specifically affecting people, animals and the environment in Aotearoa. At Tawaka Art, we care about the underdog. Many local causes get huge recognition from the public and receive corporate sponsorship/funding to pay for resources. A lot of smaller causes do not. 

We want to support those who don't get a lot of attention. 

THE LAST SEEN MAUI DOLPHIN CAMPAIGN 

 

Māui Dolphins are one of the most critically endangered dolphins worldwide, and are on the verge of extinction. A lot of people don't know this. The Last Seen Campaign was created to change that. To put into perspective how endangered they are - lets look at the population of other endangered species. There are 68,000 Kiwi Birds left, 252 Kakapō Birds left, and only 52 Māui Dolphins. This shows exactly what cause needs the most support. 

THE BREAST CANCER CAMPAIGN 

 

Breast Cancer is the most common cancer affecting women in Aotearoa. Approximately 9 women are diagnosed every day. Early detection truly is the best protection. Men and younger women can get Breast Cancer as well, but elderly women are more likely to be diagnosed. Unfortunately, free mammograms are only available in Aotearoa for women aged 45 - 70, even though 80+ year old women are more likely to get Breast Cancer. Māori and Pasifika women experience higher rates of breast cancer. The Breast Cancer Campaign is created to help change that. We want women over the age of 70 to get free mammograms.
